Book Thoughts: Berenstain Bears’ Dollars and Sense (Berenstain)

  • intended to teach basic money management
(misses the mark–concept not taught well)
  • clean language
  • new books come with pretend checks for practice

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Authors: Stan and Jan Berenstain

The Berenstain authors’ insistence on always making Papa Bear a bumbling fool drives me crazy. It’s distracting to the message they’re trying to teach in this story.

The kids are given way too much freedom at the onset. Money management and financial stewardship could be taught in so many better ways.
