*I would like to read much more biographical research on Carey’s life before coming to a conclusion in this area; nonetheless, it is important to mention that, according to this particular book, he seemed to lack consideration for his family. His wife actually went “completely deranged” (which very well might have been avoided had she had better attention from her husband) and his children could have used their father around more.

Considered the “father of modern missions,” William Carey’s life definitely prompts readers to analyze their own lives in light of faith and obedience to God. His dedication to his work is commendable as he overcomes many obstacles, such as financial issues, deaths of loved ones, etc.

My least favorite part was later in the book when young men began to take over his ministry with much disrespect. They even accused him of taking money to get rich when, in fact, he was the single biggest donor to the missionary society. May we take this lesson to heart and raise our respect to our elders.

Overall, the book provided an excellent view into a lesser-known missionary, and I recommend it!
