  • convo: ghosts (some depictions scary–chained for punishment, dark graveyard page), quotes from original text not toddler-friendly*

Type: board book
Ages: 6+
Author: Brooke Jorden
Illustrator: David Miles

*Scrooge is quoted from original text: “Bah humbug! If I could work my will, every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.”

Almost!! I love the idea of getting the richness of Dickensian words into minds as early as can be appreciated, but that one quote was a little yikes. Now, if parents skipped that particular sentence and were okay with the ghosts, it would make a charming Christmasy read, so it’s up to you, dear parents!

God bless us, everyone!
