Book Thoughts: 100 Pounds of Popcorn (Krantz)

  • a group of kids become very entrepreneurial upon receiving a huge bag of unpopped popcorn
  • their summer is busy and full of amusing lessons learned in running a business
  • language: x2 stupid, x4 gosh, “crotch” used about crooks in tree branches
  • convo: illustration of girls dancing in swimsuit-style dance garb, a pipe mentioned
  • convo: vaccines mentioned in a positive light

Type: chapter book
Ages: 7-12
Author: Hazel Krantz
Illustrator: Vic Herman

For the most part, the kids are very respectful to adults and each other. Two exceptions: a moment when a boy says “you’re mean” to his father and another when the kids mock a girl after she walked away (whose behavior was asking for it).

I read this aloud to my kids and we were fairly entertained. It wasn’t suspenseful, so it was easy to let several days go by between chapters if we weren’t careful! It was overall a good story.
