Augustine was quite the rascal in his childhood. His activities ranged from cheating and playing tricks to losing his temper and picking fights. In contrast, there is a steadfast stream of faith from his mother, Monica, as she prayed diligently for his conversion–for decades!
The point of his life when his heart was finally called to the Lord is a touching moment in the book. Monica was able to see her prayers answered before her death, and Augustine goes on to become a focused student of the Scriptures. This knowledge combined with his natural gift at communication led him to writing many good books which combat false doctrines. He was passionate about keeping the teachings of the church pure.
For parents who desire their children to know this noteworthy period of history and be blessed by Augustine’s example, I heartily recommend beginning with this book.
