Have you read Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales before? This book is adapted from the “Nun’s Priest Tale” found within.
Chanticleer is a mighty vain bird with seven hen wives. He knows he has a good singing voice and lets himself be fooled by flattery of it.
Originally published in 1958, readers will discover more sophisticated (or just different) vocabulary than modern picture books. I love how that gives it more character, but be ready to possibly look up a few definitions!
Consider adding this to your medieval studies or just read it for fun. 🙂
