*Each family will undoubtedly have different opinions on the topic of miracles. Did this man truly perform them? If so, did he give God the credit? How far should admiration go for historical figures and when does it become idolatry? Where do we get our information on the past, and is it a reliable source? This just gives you an idea of what conversation topics might crop up.

There are untranslated Spanish words used in the book, but only these two repeated:

  • barrios: neighborhoods
  • cirujano: surgeon/medical worker

This book is certainly set in a unique time period children’s books don’t often cover. If it fits into your studies, certainly consider it, but approach with caution. Personally, I’m not sure what to believe about this man and will absolutely add thoughts here if I learn more.
