*Regarding the “romance,” there were a number of times the author had a strange need to mention that an 8-year-old girl was interested in a boy. It totally detracted from the story, in my opinion.
Besides that, it’s a clean read for your kiddos. For my children and me, it was a bit on the boring side, but I know it’s a beloved book (with multiple movie versions), so we’re probably in the minority!
