Warning! You’ll have to seek this out at your library or secondhand. I don’t believe it’s published anymore (sad).
This sweet little picture book tells the true story of Lucy and Sarah Adams, who were born little. As adults, Lucy reached 49 inches while Sarah was only 46 inches tall. This fact alone draws a lot of interest from young readers!
They briefly joined a circus and then tried other ways of making a living—mainly in the performance industry—but ultimately settled down back at home with their aging parents in Massachusetts.
The author respectfully doesn’t omit the Christian aspects of the girls’ lives, which we so often see in contemporary biographies. Relatedly, in the notes in the back, she describes how they refused a big opportunity because they refused to work on Sundays.
The illustrations make the story even more interesting as we see all the custom items their father made for them—tiny stools, smaller suitcases, etc. A very enjoyable read overall and a lesser-known story! See if you can find it. ☺️
