Book Thoughts: April’s Kittens (Newberry)

• a little girl must decide which cat she wants to keep after hers has kittens

• the simple (but sweet) illustrations allow the imagination to fill in the rest

This book was originally published in 1940, but very little indicates that in the story, allowing it to be understood by multiple generations. The father is a bit too short and ungracious in a few of his comments, but overall it’s clear he loves his daughter and adds character to the story. It’s a nice story with a complete family, which is increasingly hard to find these days. See if you can find a copy!
