Book Thoughts: Cowardly Clyde (Peet)

  • a brave knight’s horse is anything but brave, especially when it comes to ogres, trolls & dragons
  • the horse finds his courage and helps the knight
  • convo: mild name calling (i.e., chicken, coward), one lie told

Type: long picture book
Ages: 5-8
Author: Bill Peet

With a good dose of age-appropriate suspense, readers will find themselves rooting for Clyde the horse! Bill Peet’s illustrations add a great deal to the story, and his giant ogre is definitely one of a kind. There might be a few somewhat scary pages for littles unaccustomed to monsters, but it is soon resolves and ends happily.
