Book Thoughts: The Man Who Loved Libraries (Larsen)

  • straightforward and succinct overview of the life of Andrew Carnegie
  • though other investments are mentioned, the book focuses on his love of libraries (he built over 2500 of them!)
  • lovely illustrations

Type: picture book biography
Ages: 4-8
Author: Andrew Larsen
Illustrator: Katty Maurey

This is one of those non-fiction picture books that leaves me wanting to know more. Was he truly this generous with his funds? Was he a secular philanthropist or did a love for Jesus and His generosity spur Carnegie on to doing the same? My mind asks questions like these. 🙂

The back includes some more info on his life and depicts famous places today that were originally built by him. For example, I had no idea that the Brooklyn Bridge was built with steel from his company.

Overall, this was a good read with no content concerns.
