Book Thoughts: The Legend of the Poinsettia (dePaola)

  • a young girl has heavy burdens placed on her at Christmastime
  • chock full of Roman Catholic erroneous teachings, praying to icons, etc.
  • classic dePaola art style

Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Tomie dePaola

Needless to say, I do not recommend this book. Learning about another culture’s traditions and legends is one thing–and we should certainly do that–, but a picture book inundated with Catholic practices is nothing I’d want my children reading for leisure around the holiday season. Please proceed with caution on this one.
