*The girl is forced to work, is stripped of her nice clothes and subjected to foul behavior. She is eventually saved and kept safe for the rest of her life.
Like I mentioned above, these stories and poems will stick in your mind. The last one will be difficult for anyone who has lost a child, but it has a beautiful ending. The middle story will be painfully relatable to anyone who has a wayward relative while the first one will affect the sensitive due to the mistreatment of the young girl. I recommend every one of them, but this is why I suggest a minimum age of 8.
Have you read this poignant selection of MacDonald’s works? Would love to hear what you thought of it!
