Jan always does a jaw-dropping good job at her artwork! This is one of my favorites of hers, because multiple things are going on. First, the main picture found in the center depicts that day’s gift–from fancily dressed French hens to handsome colly birds in the snow to colorful ladies with milk pails–all with a Scandinavian touch.
The side border images depict a lovely romance between a wife and husband (her “true love”) that continues its story throughout the song/book. Then, in the border decorations up top, the boughs of a tree always show that page spread’s verse as ornaments–for example, a partridge ornament with some pear ornaments or six geese in their nests as ornaments. Additionally, you will see creatures on the bottom two corners saying, “Merry Christmas” in a different language on each page spread.
This book is a sweet treasure for Christmastime!
