When the main character, Peter, attends church with his family, the preacher tells the story of Nicholas who lived about 300 years after Jesus. (I was a little bothered by his nailing stockings onto the pulpit, but didn’t mind the actually story of a man of faith.) If you’re looking for more on Nicholas’s history, we really like this one.
I almost never feel this, because I cherish many children’s books with a good Christian message, but this one actually felt a little too preachy for me. In fact, it might be the first time I’ve ever said that! However, it only barely crossed that line and the overall story was sweet. I even teared up toward the end. A good lesson in sacrificial living.
