*This particular poem was mostly fine–about how a people endured difficult times yet clung to their traditions–but the phrase “child of sand and sun” could deserve some discussion–remind children that they are actually children of God and how the two differ.

If you’re looking to introduce your young children to poetry, this collection would be a great place to start. The poems are all quite short, catchy and accompanied by wonderful illustrations. A number of them you might even recognize yourself! The first time I read it to my children, it even brought me joy with so many rhythmic, cheery lines. I hope it does you, too.
