Book Thoughts: The Brave Cowboy (Anglund)

  • join an imaginative little boy as he plays cowboy all day
  • he doesn’t forget any details–from how he dresses to catching bad guys to the animals he runs across
  • artwork adds much to the text*

Type: picture book
Ages: 2-7
Author: Joan Walsh Anglund

*More on the artwork: The “real life” aspect is drawn in black while the “imagined” details are in red. For example, when he’s “taking a ride across the prairie,” the tall stool he’s sitting on is in black with a red horse drawn over it. Or when his “horse went lame while he was hunting buffalo” and the black illustration shows his tricycle with a broken wheel.

“Extremely adorable” was my first thought when I initially read this little book. If you come across it, it’s a definite “yes” from me!
