Book Thoughts: Christian Heroes, Then and Now: Eric Liddell (Benge)

• page-turner story of an Olympic runner turned missionary
• his character inspires and encourages readers in perseverance, joy, seeking good of others, and more
• not theological*
• war-time violence described on occasion (shooting, bombing, beheading, pitiful living conditions, and one mention of assaulting women)

*What I mean by that: There is minimal theology in this book–no gospel, no doctrinal discussions, etc. It was, indeed, a little strange that the story never actually told *how* he witnessed to others–just that he did so–but the book is still a good read.

There are a whole lot of stats on his famous races and sports life, but it was surprisingly still interesting. The writing style flowed very easily. A sports-loving person would probably love it even more.

My favorite quote of his was to his wife before they had to part again: “Those who love God never meet for the last time.”
