I am not a big fan of Roald Dahl in general, BUT this was the cleanest of his that I’ve read.
*The drunkenness was one small scene in which the kids & parents simply heard through a closed door Oompa Loompas laughing a lot after testing alcoholic candies. Also, 4 of the kids are extremely naughty and/or disrespectful, but it contrasts with Charlie’s well-mannered behavior (and provides a very extreme example for kids!).
I wish the language issues weren’t in the book, but if you can get around that (skipping over or replacing), it’s really quite a good read-aloud.
