- a girl helps her owl friend try to find his lost imagination
- convo: one illustration shows hypnotism (its text says “Olive tried something sleepy”)
- the pictures are very sweet
Type: picture book
Ages: 4-8
Author: Jonathan D. Voss
It’s always fun to read imaginative stories, and the book’s duo is quite creative in their rainy day play. But the solution to Hoot’s lack of imagination fell flat.
Hoot: “Why is it, when my imagination is the thing that’s broken, it’s my heart that hurts the most?”
Olive: “That’s it!” She had forgotten the most important part. “You have to imagine with this,” placing her hand over Hoot’s heart.
Was the author intending to say, “Put your heart into it,” as in “give it your all” or “make a better effort”? Or was it more a “look within yourself” or “follow your heart” type message? I’m not sure. But your kids will love the illustrations anyway!
