- the classic Dickens Christmas story simplified for children
- ghosts visit a mean old miser to help him turn his life around for the better
- convo: ghosts
- fantastic illustrations
Type: board book
Ages: 6+
Original Author: Charles Dickens
Adapted by: Millie Monaghan
Illustrator: James Newman Gray
My favorite part of this version is the illustrations. They’re sure to attract the eye of young readers!
I personally wouldn’t read this to kids in the typical “board book” stage. The content of the original story really can’t be adapted enough to be toddler-friendly, in my opinion. The first ghost, Marley, shows up in chains and the last ghost is dark and gloomy. Let me encourage you to always strive for placing Dickens in the lives of your children…but at appropriate ages. 🙂
Another board book adaptation I’ve reviewed can be read here. It has better text than this version but not as good illustrations. Consider combining the two!
Read the review of the original A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens.
